TULSA, Okla. – University of Tulsa men's tennis freshman Kody Pearson was named the American Athletic Conference men's tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
The honor comes as a result of another standout performance in singles this past weekend, taking two straight-set wins over Daniel Soyfer of Cornell and Harrison Scott of Texas.
Including this past weekend's victories, Pearson paces the TU squad in singles, boasting an impressive 11-1 mark in solo play in the dual season. The Sydney, Australia, native is 2-0 at No. 2, 4-0 at No. 3 and 5-1 at the fourth spot for the Golden Hurricane.
Pearson was instrumental in Tulsa's upset over No. 14 TCU, as the freshman tallied his first ranked win in a dual match over No. 65 Bertus Kruger, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, to even the match at 2-all before TU's upset 4-2 win.
Head coach Vince Westbrook's bunch sits at 9-3 overall this spring, with a tough test traveling to Tulsa on Sunday, as LSU and Tulsa square off at 12 p.m. CT.
