Tulsa Falls to Wichita State on Wednesday Night

TULSA, Okla. — Wichita State tied a school record with 15 3-pointers to defeat Tulsa, 81-60, on Wednesday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Martins Igbanu led the way for the Golden Hurricane (16-11, 6-8) with 17 points, while DaQuan Jeffries had his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Tulsa held a 45-37 rebounding advantage, including a season-high 19 offensive boards.
In addition, Sterling Taplin moved into the program's all-time top five for career assists in the contest. The senior dished out three assists and now has 389 for his career, which passed current TU assistant coach Shea Seals for the No. 5 spot on the list.
Meanwhile, Dexter Dennis his six 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 18 points for the Shockers (13-12, 6-7), while Samajae Haynes-Jones hit five triples en route to 17 points. Wichita State shot 47.6-percent in the contest.
Dennis got the visitors off to a quick start with back-to-back 3-pointers in the opening minutes and the Shockers had a 19-9 advantage after 10 minutes. The freshman would hit two more triples in the half and Wichita State shot 50-percent on its way to a 42-28 halftime cushion.
In the second half, Tulsa went on a quick 7-0 spurt that include 3-pointers by Elijah Joiner and Jeffries to pull within 53-42 with 13:52 to go. However, Erik Stevenson and Jaime Echenique hit back-to-back treys minutes later to start a run of four straight 3-pointers for WSU to to pull away.
Tulsa will be back in action at 11 a.m. (CT) on Saturday, Feb. 23 when it will head to Philadelphia for a matchup at Temple (19-7, 9-4).
