Tulsa Women Fall to No. 45 USF on Wednesday, 4-3

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tulsa women's tennis team (11-7) fell in a 4-3 battle to the No. 45 USF Bulls on Wednesday at the USF Varsity Tennis Complex.
Despite Tulsa's No. 15 tandem of Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner taking a quick 6-1 victory, USF managed to take the No. 2 and 3 positions to secure the 1-0 advantage into singles play.
Tulsa tied the match up at 1-all with Ploner's win at the No. 3 spot in the first completed singles match, 6-0, 7-6(4). The Golden Hurricane would go on to take the lead with freshman Megan Hopton's win over USF's Nicole Dzenga, 7-5, 6-3.
Martha Matoula pushed the Tulsa lead to 3-1 with her team-leading 12th victory of the season, defeating the Bulls' Vanja Klaric in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(4).
USF would rally back with two straight singles wins, defeating Shura Poppe and Marina Davtyan at the No. 4 and 6 positions, respectively. The match would come down the No. 1 position, where Tulsa No. 98 Okalova squared off with USF's No. 46 Ana Roman Dominguez.
Roman Dominguez would win a three-set thriller, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(6) to secure the 4-3 victory for the Bulls.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday when it travels to Orlando for a 4 p.m. CT match with UCF, the teams' second meeting of the season.
