WICHITA,
Kan. – The University of Tulsa women's tennis squad (14-9) fell, 4-3, to the Wichita State Shockers (12-9) in the team's regular-season finale at the Coleman Tennis Complex on Friday.

The doubles point played out to be a back-and-forth affair, with the Shockers edging out the 1-0 advantage. Freshmen Megan Hopton and Marina Davtyan fell first, 6-4, to Wichita State's Ting-Ya Hsu and Lingwei Kong.

To clinch the point, the Shockers picked up a 7-5 win at the No. 1 spot as No. 30-ranked tandem of Fatima Bizhukova and Marta Bellucco defeated Tulsa's No. 13 Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner.

TU responded quickly in singles as Martha Matoula continued her strong senior season, defeating Sandra Honigova, 6-3, 6-1. No. 80-ranked Okalova followed suit shortly after, picking up a ranked victory over No. 111 Bizhukova, 6-2, 6-3 to give Tulsa the 2-1 lead.

Wichita State managed to even the score back up at 2-all at the No. 5 position, as Shura Poppe dropped to Hsu, 6-4, 6-3. Afterward, the Shockers regained the overall match lead from the No. 6 position, as Davtyan fell to Alexandra Lazarova, 6-1, 7-6(3).

Ploner managed to defeat Esther Thebault to once again tie the match, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4. In what came down to Hopton against WSU's Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva, the Shocker clinched the win, 6-7, 6-0, 6-0.

With the regular-season finale now complete, head coach Dean Orford's squad will shift its focus to the American Athletic Conference tournament in Orlando, Florida. The team has claimed the conference title in three of the past four years, and will try to continue its dominance next week on April 17-20 at the USTA National Campus.
