Golden Hurricane Conclude Mizzou Invite with Five Wins Against Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Tulsa women's tennis team ended the Mizzou Invite with five wins in singles play against Missouri on Sunday. The three-day invitational was hosted by the Tigers also featured Houston and SMU and was played at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
No. 73 Martina Okalova once again won at number one singles, improving to 3-0 with a 6-3, 7-5 decision over Ellie Wright.
Shura Poppe defeated Lisa Fukutoku 6-3, 6-1 at number three singles.
Marina Davtyan secured her third win of the tournament at the number four position with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Viven Abraham.
After falling in a third-set tiebreak yesterday, freshman Laia Conde Monfort rebounded for a 6-3, 6-4 win at number six singles.
Lian Benedejcic would win her contest at number five singles with a third-set tiebreak over Marta Oliveria. After falling to Oliveria in the first set, the freshman bounced back in the second set for a 7-5 victory. Forcing the decisive tiebreak, the two went the distance before Bendejecic won 13-11.
Vera Ploner would also play a tiebreak at number two singles. After suffering defeat to Missouri's Serena Nash 6-3 in the first set, the senior survived the second set with a 7-6 win. The two would also go the distance before Nash sealed the win for Missouri.
The Golden Hurricane are set to return to action at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships. The eight-day event begins on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The championships will feature the top collegiate athletes from across the country in singles and doubles competition.
