The Game

• Tulsa will take on the Northwestern State Demons in a non-conference matchup in the Reynolds Center Friday night on ESPN+.

• The game is the fifth contest for Tulsa this season ... the Demons are 1-5 on the season winning their last game 77-44 to Champion Christian College on Dec. 12.

Scouting the Demons

• Northwestern State was picked to finish 10th in the preseasonSouthland Conference Coaches Poll ... the Demons return 11, including three starters from last season, when the team went 15-15 and 11-9 in conference play.

• The Demons opened their season with a loss to Texas Tech on the road, 101-58 ... they dropped their first five games,  most recentlty to Lousiana Monroe, 92-83.

• The Demons are led in scoring by Trenton Massner who is averaging 12.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game ... guard Jarius Roberson is averaging 12.2 points, 2.0 rebounds and 15 assists a game for Northwestern State.

• Northwestern State is led by Head Coach Mike McConathy, who was been at the helm of the Demons for the last 21 seasons and holds a 311-341 record.
 

The Series

• This will be the 4th contest between the Golden Hurricane and the Demons ... the first game between the two teams was in 1949 as Tulsa defeated Northwestern State 45-40 in Enid, Okla.

• TU holds a 3-0 series advantage over Northwestern State, with the last home contest coming on Nov. 21, 2004 ... the Hurricane won the contest 63-54, behind a career-high 26 points from Seneca Collins.
 

A Tulsa Win Would

• Give the Hurricane its second win of the season, moving Tulsa to 2-3 on the year.

• Move Tulsa's all-time record against Northwestern State to 4-0.

• Give Head Coach Haith his 118th win which would be  for 4th all-time in Tulsa history.
 

Being Big in the Paint

• The Golden Hurricane has a 13.5 margin in the paint over its opponents, 35.5 per game (142) for Tulsa to 22.0 for the opposition (88).

• The Golden Hurricane has two games with a double-digit margin of points in the paint ... Tulsa outscored TCU 38-18 and UT Arlington 48-24 in the paint.

• Tulsa has used its two centers to bang downlow with Emmanuel Ugboh and Rey Idowu combing for 36 points in the paint ... the Hurricane guards have attacked the rim and made 53 baskets inside the paint.
 

Rachal Dominating for the Hurricane

• Senior Brandon Rachal has started the season on fire for Tulsa averaging 17.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 blocks per game.

• In each of the first four games, he has led the team in points, three times in blocks and twice in rebounds.

• Against Wichita State, Rachal captured his fifth career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds ... it was the first double-double for the Hurricane this season.

• Against UTA, he scored 9 of his 19 points in the 5:45 of the 1st half leading a 15-5 run to give TU the lead.

• He was named to the American Athletic Conference week one honor roll after averaging 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 blocks in games against TCU and South Carolina.
