TULSA, Okla. - The No. 33-ranked Tulsa women's tennis team is scheduled to play its final road match of the regular season on Tuesday afternoon, as they take on No. 50-ranked Kansas at 4 p.m. at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence.
The Golden Hurricane (8-3) and Jayhawks (3-4) both enter the dual match well-rested, as both teams last played on Sunday, February 16.
Tulsa enters the match having only played just three road matches this year. On February 15, the Hurricane clinched a 4-0 win over DePaul in West Lafayette, Ind., but fell at Purdue the following day, 4-2. Kansas snapped a four-match losing streak against then-No. 23 Washington on February 16, 5-2. All four of its losses came against teams currently ranked in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Women's Tennis Rankings.
Tulsa was once again represented in the singles and doubles rankings. Martina Okalova stands at No. 92, while also ranking with Vera Ploner in doubles at No. 43 overall. Last season, the duo became the second and third All-Americans in program history following a three-set win over Kansas in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Doubles Championships.
As a team, the Hurricane earned their first ranking of the year as the No. 36 overall team. The ITA Team Rankings, which expanded from the top 25 to the top 50 last Tuesday, pinned the Jayhawks at No. 42 overall.
Kansas features a pair of doubles tandems in the top 50 in No. 32 Sonia Smagina and Carmen Roxana Manu and No. 46 Malkia Ngounoue and Luniuska Delgado. The two teams meet one in fall competition, as Lian Benedejcic and Megan Hopton suffered a 6-3 loss to then-No. 56 Ngounoue and Maria Toran Ribes.
Smagina is the lone KU player in the singles rankings. She sits as the No. 74-ranked player.
