LAWRENCE, Kan. - The No. 33-ranked Tulsa women's tennis team dropped its road match to No. 50-ranked Kansas on Tuesday, 6-1, at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. With the loss, the Golden Hurricane sit at 8-4 overall, while the Jayhawks move to 4-4 on the season.

The Hurricane held the advantage at No. 3 doubles, as Elodie Foster and Shura Poppe captured a 6-1 victory over Maria Toran Ribes and Julia Deming. Megan Hopton and Laia Conde Monfort took an early lead at the No. 2 spot, but ultimately fell to No. 32 Sonia Smagina and Carmen Roxana Manu, 6-2. The duo now stands at 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. In the top position, No. 43 Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner suffered just their second loss in 2020 against No. 46 Malkia Ngounoue and Luniuska Delgado, 6-3.

In singles, Conde Monfort was the lone Hurricane to win their opening set. The freshman posted Tulsa's only point of the night, thanks to a 6-4, 6-1 win over Delgado at the No. 4 position.

The Golden Hurricane bounced back in their second sets, as two matches went to three sets, while one was determined in a tiebreak.

In the top spot, No. 92 Okalova took on No. 74 Smagina. The senior got off to a slow start during the first two sets, but she bounced back and found a way to force a tiebreak. Okalova would fall to Smagina, 6-2, 7-6(6).

Poppe and Ploner each forced a third set at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Poppe fell to Ngounoue, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, while Ploner suffered a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, against Manu.

Tulsa will begin an 11-match homestand, starting Saturday, March 14, when the Hurricane host Wichita State at 1 p.m., at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of TU. The homestand does not include The American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Conference Championships. The conference tournament will be held at Case Tennis Center, beginning Wednesday, April 15 through Saturday, April 18.
