Tulsa Volleyball Knocks off South Florida in Four Sets

TULSA, Okla. ― The Tulsa volleyball team beat South Florida in four sets, 25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 25-15 Friday afternoon at the Reynolds Center. Tulsa improves to 7-5 on the season, 2-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while South Florida drops to 6-8, 0-3 in AAC play.

Tulsa got off to a hot start, winning the first two sets 25-17. The Golden Hurricane tallied a .517 kill percentage during the second set on their way to a 2-0 match lead.

In third set, South Florida jumped out to an 8-1 lead, forcing head coach Ryan Wills to call a timeout. Tulsa responded with a 6-1 run out of the timeout to get back in the set. Later in the set, Roosa Rautio and Rachel Brown checked in and gave the Hurricane a jolt off the bench to take a 22-21 lead. With their backs against a potential sweep, the Bulls went on a 4-0 run to win the third set and force a fourth set.

After being down 9-5 to start the fourth set, Tulsa went on a 20-6 to end the match and give the Hurricane their second conference win of the season.

Kayley Cassaday, who returned following an injury, led the team with 13 kills on the day. Aysu Dalogullari tallied her second career double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs.

Avery Kalsu assisted 35 Tulsa kills while the middle blocking duo of Maggie Hembree and Callie Cook combined for 13 kills and 10 total blocks.

The Hurricane tallied a season-high nine service aces. Hannah Overmyer served a career-high four aces while Marta Pecalli added two more aces to her team-leading 17.

Tulsa will look to build off the win when they host the UCF Knights, AAC Champions the past three years, at 1 pm on Sunday, October 3.
