Tulsa Falls to Wichita State 3-1 in the Reynolds

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa Golden Hurricane battled hard, capturing a 30-28 second set win but fall to Wichita State 3-1, Friday afternoon in the Reynolds Center.
Senior Maggie Hembree showed out for Tulsa, putting in 11 kills on 21 attempts for a .381 kill percentage. The middle blocker led the team in blocks with two solo blocks and three block assists.
For the second consecutive match, Kayley Cassaday led the team in kills with 12. The outside hitter added two solo blocks and two block assists in the contest.
Roosa Rautio recorded her second double-double in as many games, accounting for 39 assists on 44 Hurricane kills. The setter also recorded 13 digs and added a block.
Lauren Overmyer was dominant for the Hurricane in her first start at Libero, leading the team with 24 digs. She added an ace and two assists for Tulsa.
Transfer Kylie Trefflich and freshman Regan Pendleton saw their first action in the blue and gold today. Trefflich had two blocks and a solo block, while Pendleton put in a ferocious kill in the fourth frame.
A kill by Rautio sparked a 3-1 run to start the first set for the Hurricane. The shockers battled back using an 8-1 run to take an 11-5 lead. TU fought back as Cassaday led the Hurricane on a 5-0 run, scoring 4 points of her own during the stretch. Tulsa took a 22-21 lead, before Wichita State closed the set out with a 25-22-point advantage.
The Hurricane came out on fire in the second set, using am 8-1 stretch to take the commanding lead. Callie Cook led the team during the run accounting for two kills. Tulsa took its largest lead of the set at 14-4 on a kill by Lauren Isenberg.
Tulsa saw five match points before kills by Aysu Dalogullari and Hembree gave the Hurricane the 30-28-point match win.
Tulsa used another quick start in the third set to take a 9-7 advantage, but the Shockers bounced back going on a 10-0 run of their own, taking a 25-14 set three victory. TU battled in the fourth set but fell in the end 25-18, giving Wichita State the 3-1 win.
The Hurricane is back in action next Thursday, Feb. 18 as TU travels to Memphis to take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m.
