Tulsa Track Teams Earn 15 Top-Three Finishes at Herm Wilson Invitational

The Tulsa men's and women's track and field teams combined for 15 top-three finishes, including seven first-place marks on Friday afternoon at the Wichita State Herm Wilson Invitational at the Heskett Center in Wichita, Kan.
WOMEN
Carsyn Spurgeon won the long jump event with a distance of 18'6", besting Oral Roberts' Shalom Olotu by 9.75 inches who finished in second place.
In the 400-meter run, Jaidyn McCallon, Elizabeth Roca and Kaitlyn Johnson captured first, second and fourth-place marks with times of 57.03, 57.71 and 59.51.
Jaidah McCallon won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:13.42, while Brianna Hays was less than two-tenths of a second out of medal contention with her fourth-place finish in a time of 2:16.75. Maicie Brown was eighth overall.
Ashley Barnes and Chloe McEachern claimed first and second place, respectively, in the mile run with times of 5:04.22 and 5:14.85. Maya Boschee also competed in the event, finishing sixth with a time of 5:19.94.
In the 3,000-meter run, Kylee Reed finished second with a time of 11:24.96. TU's 4x400-Meter Relay team, consisting of Jaidah McCallon, Kaitlyn Johnson, Elizabeth Roca and Jaidyn McCallon, also finished second with a time of 3:54.46.
Ca'Purnika Galbert turned in a time of 7.93 for fifth place in the 60-meter dash preliminary race, followed by Carsyn Spurgeon (7 – 8.07) and Hannah Booe (8 – 8.15). Galbert and Spurgeon advanced to the finals, finishing fifth (7.97) and seventh (8.13), respectively.
Rachel Hamel placed fourth in the pentathlon after posting times of 9.13 in the 60-meter hurdles and 2:40.75 in the 800-meter run, jumps of 4'8.25" in the high jump and 15'9" in the long jump, and a shot-put throw of 24'0.25".
Ca'Purnika Galbert turned in a sixth-place performance in the 200-meter run in a time of 26.42, and Hannah Booe was three-tenths of a second behind in seventh place. Rachel Hamel finished 15th with a time of 27.91.
MEN
Jerik Embleton, Chris McLeod and Brett Davis swept the 3,000-meter run with times of 8:37.14, 8:39.68 and 8:41.44, respectively. Greg Fehribach finished fifth in a time of 8:45.65, Ryan Shumaker was seventh, Colton Palmer was 10th and Henry Williams was 11th.
Jacob Brown won the men's mile race with a time of 4:14.44, more than three-seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Greg Fehribach claimed a third-place finish in a time of 4:18.40, while Ryan Shumaker was just over a second behind in fourth place (4:19.72). Chris McLeod (6 – 4:24.29), Colton Palmer (8 – 4:30.25) and Henry Williams (10 – 4:33.97) round out TU's competitors in the event.
Henry Visser crossed the finish line first in a time of 50.28 in the 400-meter run, a half-second ahead of Oklahoma Baptist's Shirvante Knauls. Kyran Lacy was third with a time of 50.74, while Emmanuel Okwuone was 11th (52.38).
Henry Visser, Emmanuel Okwuone, Kyran Lacy and Jacob Brown recorded a fourth-place time of 3:25.36 in the 4x400-meter relay.
Joseph Nemec recorded a fifth-place time of 7.14 in the preliminary 60-meter race, and then tallied a fifth-place mark in the finals with a time of 7.10. He also registered a time of 22.93 in the 200-meter run for sixth place.
In the 800-meter run, Pete Johnson finished eighth in a time of 1:56.79.
