TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa Golden Hurricane battled the 18th-ranked Mississippi Rebels before falling 4-3 on Friday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Center

The 36th-ranked Hurricane fell to 9-7 on the season, while Ole Miss improved to 6-7 on the year with six of those losses coming against top 14 ranked teams.

The doubles point went down to a tiebreaker in the No. 1 slot between Tulsa's 29th-ranked team of Connor Di Marco and Kody Pearson against the nation's 7th-ranked Tim Sandkaulen and Finn Reynolds.

The Rebels won the first doubles match at the No. 2 position, but the team of Ezequiel Santalla and Daniel Siddall took a 6-4 victory at No. 3 to set-up the point-deciding match. DiMarco and Pearson tied the match at 6-6 after trailing 2-0 and 5-3, but the Ole Miss pair won the tiebreak 7-4 for the 7-6 victory and a 1-0 Rebel lead.

Ole Miss went ahead 3-0 with wins at the No. 6 and No. 2 slots before the Hurricane cut its deficit to one with wins by Juan Pablo Cenoz at the No. 5 position, 6-3, 6-2, and Stefan Hampe's 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 spot.

The Rebels clinched the match when Nikola Slavic defeated Ezequiel Santalla at the third position to go ahead 4-2.

Tulsa's Kody Pearson at flight one turned in an impressive outing to win his match. Trailing 5-3 in the first set, Pearson scored the next four points for a 7-5 victory. In the second set, Pearson jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but had to battle back from a 6-5 defict to tie the match at 6-6. Down 5-0 in the tiebreaker, Pearson tied the match at five and the tiebreak was tied again at 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, before he closed it out by winning the final two points for the 12-10 tiebreak victory.

Tulsa will return to the Case Tennis Center next Thursday, March 25, against the No. 24 Oklahoma State Cowboys. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
