
Tulsa Women Win Long Jump and Javelin Events at the KT Woodman Classic

Tulsa women's outdoor track and field student-athletes Carsyn Spurgeon and Ali Lund recorded the best long jump and farthest javelin throw, respectively, on Saturday afternoon at the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kan. In all, TU recorded six top-three marks between the men's and women's teams at the meet.

WOMEN
On the women's side, seven student-athletes competed in seven events. TU captured wins in the long jump and javelin, as well as a second-place mark in the 400m dash and a third-place finish in the 100m hurdles.

Carsyn Spurgeon won the long jump event with her jump of 5.94m (19'6"), topping the Shockers' Nerea Quiros second-place jump (5.58m – 18'3.75") by more than 14 inches. Spurgeon's jump is the third-best in school history, but she owns the top two marks of 20'8" and 19'8".

Ali Lund also claimed a top mark with her throw of 45.05m (147'9") in the javelin. She topped Halie Brown of Wichita State's throw (39.77m – 130'5") by more than 15 feet. Rachel Hamel had a seventh-place throw of 20.40m (66'11"). Lund's throw is the third-best in school history as Katy McGillen has the best throw of 159'1" and Lund herself owns the second-best of 150'3".

Jaidyn McCallon captured a second-place mark with her time of 57.66 in the 400m dash, trailing Drake's Yinka Mary Ajayi (55.81).

Hamel recorded a third-place time of 14.80 in the 100m hurdles and turned in a fifth-place performance in the high jump with her jump of 1.50m (4'11").Â

In the 100m Dash, Ca'Purnika Galbert crossed the line in 12.32 seconds for fifth place, while Cara Johnson was 10th (12.44) and Hannah Booe was 15th (12.61).

McCallon captured a seventh-place mark with a time of 25.66 in the 200m dash. Galbert was eighth (25.77), Johnson was 11th (25.97) and Booe was 14th (26.72).

MEN
On the men's side, five student-athletes competed in a total of four events. The Golden Hurricane claimed second and third place marks.

Kyran Lacy crossed the finish line a tenth of a second behind Wichita State's Joakim Genereux (21.77) for a second-place finish of 21.87 in the 200m dash, while Henry Visser was 11th (22.62). The duo also competed in the 400m dash, with Visser claiming seventh place (50.88) and Lacy finishing eighth (50.97).

In the 3,000m steeplechase, Jackson Schwartz recorded a time of 9:24.54 for third place.

Michael Gates and Ben Black finished 12th and 15th, respectively, in times of 4:06.07 and 4:10.97 in the 1,500m run. The duo was slated to compete in the 5,000m run but did not start the race.
