Tulsa returns to regional after winning The American Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –– The University of Tulsa women's golf team was selected Wednesday to play in the Baton Rouge Regional, May 10-12, for an opportunity to advance to the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship.

The Baton Rouge Regional will be played at the University Club.

Tulsa comes in as the No. 13 seed after winning the American Athletic Conference Championship. Host LSU is the No. 1 seed followed by Ole Miss, Baylor, Oregon, Maryland, Alabama, Oregon State, Houston, Miami (Fla.) and North Texas rounding out the top 10 seeds.

The Golden Hurricane received the AAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning The American title last week with a three-shot victory over two-time defending champion Houston. The Hurricane led from start to finish with rounds of 293-301-294 for a total score of 888.

In addition to the AAC championship, Tulsa also won titles this season at the Texas State Invitational and the Rebel Beach Intercollegiate.

Since regional play was instituted in 1993, the Tulsa women's golf program will be making regional competition for the 18th time this year. It's Tulsa's first regional appearance since the 2011-12 season. Tulsa golf has a tremendous tradition as Hurricane teams have won four national championships, including the 1980 and 1982 AIAW titles and the 1982 and 1988 NCAA championships. Tulsa has also placed as the runners-up in another five national championships.

A total of four regional sites includes 18 teams and six individuals competing, with the top six teams (24 teams total) and the low three individuals (12 individuals total) not on an advancing team from each regional site advancing the national championships at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
