Tulsa Volleyball Heads to Missouri to Wrap Up Non-Conference Slate

9/15/2021 2:35:00 PM | Volleyball

Following a 3-1 win over crosstown rival Oral Roberts to end the Tulsa Invitational, the Golden Hurricane volleyball team heads east to compete in the Redhawks Invitational on September 17-18 at Houck Field House in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Tulsa, who sits at 3-3 on the young season, is scheduled to play tournament host Southeast Missouri State at 10:30 am on Friday, September 17 to open the tournament before facing off against Central Arkansas at 4:30 pm later that day. The Hurricane will clash with Southern Illinois Saturday, September 18 at 12 pm to end the non-conference schedule.

Kayley Cassaday will look to continue her impressive play to start the season. The junior outside hitter leads the team with 97 kills on the year to go along with five double-doubles in six matches. Avery Kalsu, who played all 12 sets in the Tulsa Invitational, tallied 33 assists and 21 digs, both career highs, in Saturday's victory over Oral Roberts.

Tulsa and SEMO haven't played each other since 1993, with the Redhawks having a 4-1 advantage in the all-time series. SEMO comes into the weekend 6-3, including a five-set win over American Athletic Conference member Memphis.

Tulsa and Central Arkansas, who is 1-5 on the season, will square off for the 10th time ever Friday afternoon. The Hurricane hold a 7-2 series lead, but the Bears won the most recent meeting in five-sets at the 2017 ORU Golden Eagle Classic.

The final match before conference play begins, will be the 13th meeting ever between Tulsa and Southern Illinois. The Salukis lead the all-time series 11-1 and have a 5-5 record this season.

Friday morning's match between Tulsa and SE Missouri State will be broadcast on ESPN+.
