HOUSTON, Texas — The University of Tulsa volleyball team fell in straight sets (19-25, 19-25, 23-25) to the No. 24-ranked Houston Cougars (19-2, 10-0 AAC) Sunday on the road in Texas.
The loss dropped the Golden Hurricane's overall record to 10-11 and 3-6 in American Athletic Conference action.
Outside hitter Kayley Cassaday finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Hurricane offense. Setter tandem Avery Kalsu (15) and Brayden Hipp (13) combined for 28 assists to boost the Tulsa attack.
Defensively, Tulsa had two players reach double figures in digs as outside hitter Lauren Eitler and libero Marta Pecalli each had 11. The Hurricane finished the day with 13 total blocks from the front row.
Tulsa will return for homecoming weekend next week to take on UCF (17-1, 9-1 AAC) on Friday, Oct. 28, and South Florida (7-13, 1-7 AAC) on Sunday, Oct. 30, in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hurricane fell behind early, losing a tough first set 25-19. Tulsa trailed by as many as six points as Houston grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was tied up five times before the Cougars took control.
SET 2 | Tulsa then dropped set two 25-19 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Hurricane fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.
SET 3 | Tulsa could not prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Hurricane dropped a back-and-forth battle, losing 25-23 in a set that featured seven lead changes and 12 tie scores. Neither team had a lead of more than three points along the way.
