Tulsa Scores All Eight Runs in Final Inning for 8-7 Win over LA Tech

RUSTON, La. – Tulsa didn't score until the final inning in an 8-7 victory over Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon in the first of four weekend games at the LA Tech Invitational.
Tulsa scored eight runs in their last at-bat and overcame a 7-0 deficit for the victory. The Hurricane had only three hits in the first six innings but exploded in the top of the 7th with six hits to get its second comeback win of the season.
Tulsa improved to 2-4 on the season, while LA Tech fell to 4-3.
Imani Edwards led off the 7th inning with a single and Celeste Wood followed with a single of her own before Gracie Jarvis was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Abby Jones singled to score Edwards and Wood scored on a fielder's choice to make it a 7-2 game.
Tulsa scored its final six runs with two outs. Claira Skaggs doubled to left center to score Kailyn Bearpaw and Abby Jones for Tulsa's third and fourth runs. In her second at-bat of the inning Edwards again singled scoring Norwood, who got on base by a hit-by-pitch, and Skaggs.
With the score sitting at 7-6, the freshman Wood came up to the plate for her second chance of the inning. She knocked in the winning runs for the second time in the last three games with a triple down the right field line, scoring Morgan and Edwards
After giving up an opening singe in the bottom of the seventh, Llamas-Howell shut down the next three batters to secure the Tulsa win.
Wood ended the game with three hits and the two game-winning RBI. Edwards had two hits and two RBI, while Skaggs also had two RBI. Sara Llamas-Howell pitched 5.12 innings, striking out five and giving up just one earned run for her first win of the season.
LA Tech took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on three hits.
The Lady Techsters added three runs in the 2nd inning on just one hit but also had two walks and three hit batters. Llamas-Howell entered the game for starter Samantha Pochop with bases loaded and retired two of the four batters she faced to end the inning.
Tulsa remained hitless through the first three innings but got out of the 3rd inning without allowing a run or hit by the Lady Techsters.
Kylie Norwood singled in the top of the 4th for the first Tulsa hit, but the Hurricane failed to get her across the plate. Tulsa had an opportunity to put runs up in the 5th inning as the Hurricane had two hits and runners on second and third before a ground-out ended the inning.
Tech added two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning for a 7-0 lead before Tulsa's last inning heroics.
