TULSA, Okla. ― Coming off its first ranking of the season, the now No. 28 Tulsa men's tennis team is set to play No. 54 Denver on Friday before facing No. 50 Texas Tech on Sunday.
In today's ITA computerized team rankings, Tulsa was slotted at No. 28 after receiving votes in last week's ITA Coaches Poll.
The Hurricane are coming off back-to-back wins over Alabama and Arkansas and are 6-3 on the season. Senior Kody Pearson was named the AAC Player of the Week yesterday, the third consecutive player of the week honors for the Hurricane, after tallying wins on No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles against Arkansas last week.
Tulsa will play outdoors for the first time this spring when the Hurricane face Denver on Friday at 1 pm. Due to potential weather, play could be moved indoors at a later time. The Pioneers are 5-2 on the season and are coming off a 7-0 victory over Metro State of Denver. Denver's tandem of James Davis/Matt Summers currently are ranked No. 24 in the ITA Doubles Rankings.
After that, Tulsa will clash with Texas Tech Sunday at noon. The Red Raiders are 6-5 this season, but 3-1 at home, and will play Denver on Saturday. Texas Tech beat LSU and AAC member SMU earlier this spring and competed in the Texas A&M region at the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
Tulsa and Denver haven't met since 2000, when Tulsa won 8-1, while Tulsa and Texas Tech are 6-6 historically, including a 5-2 win last February for the Hurricane.
