Tulsa to Compete in Meets in Chicago and Kansas This Weekend

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa track and field team will split up and send athletes to both The Badger's Windy City Invite in Chicago, Illinois, and the Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas starting Friday, February 11th and conclude the following day.
The Hurricane will send 33 track athletes to Chicago, 19 on the men's side, and 14 on the women's side, to compete in 15 total events against Arizona, Howard, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Oregon, Wisconsin, and South Florida at the Track and Field Center at Gately Park. Joshua Sutton, who won the 60-meter dash at the Washburn Open two weeks ago, will compete in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash, while Shay McEvoy, who won the 3,000-meter run at the Washburn Open, will be one of 10 Tulsa male runners to compete in the 3,000-meter in Chicago. The Hurricane men will also have a 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Evan Sanni-Thomas, Kyran Lacy, Cameron Conyers, and Henry Visser.
On the women's side, Jaidah McCallon is set to compete in the 800-meter run after setting a personal-best time of 2:13.00 and first-place finish at Washburn. Chloe Hershenow, who took home first in the 3,000-meter run in Topeka, will compete alongside Chloe McEachern, Katharina Pesendorfer, and Layla Roebke in the 3,000-meter run in the Windy City. Tulsa women will also have one 4x400-meter relay team and two 4,000-meter distance medley relay teams.
In Pittsburg, Kansas, Tulsa will send eight female and five male athletes to the 7th annual Gorilla Classic inside the Robert W. Plaster Center at Pittsburg State. Rachel Hamel is set to compete in both the 60-meter hurdles as well as the 800-meter run, while Hannah Booe and Cara Johnson are in the 60-meter dash field. Alice Newcombe, Robyn Kowalski, and Avery Hill will run in the 3,000-meter run, while Carlota Soler will run in the mile. For Kowalski and Soler, it will be their Tulsa debuts. Kaitlyn Johnson rounds out the rest of the Tulsa women in the 400-meter dash. On the men's side, Zachary Adee and Kenney Solomon will compete in the 60-meter dash, while Daryl Turner will race in the 400-meter dash. Gian Pulido and Matthew Beveridge are both slated for the 800-meter run.
The Badger's Windy City Invite will start Friday at noon with the men's and women's high jump, before the 5,000-meter run starts off the running events at 3:40 pm. Saturday's schedule gets started at 11:00 am with the 3,000-meter run.
The Gorilla Classic hasn't released an event schedule but will start on Friday as well.
