No. 46 Tulsa Drops to No. 19 UCF

TULSA, Okla. ― The 46th ranked Tulsa women's tennis team dropped Sunday afternoon's match against No. 19 UCF 4-0. The Hurricane drop to 13-7 this spring.

Tulsa gave the No. 19 team in the country all they could handle, especially in doubles play. The freshmen duo of Lily Hutchings/Ana Naranjo Martinez collected a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles, improving to 13-3 in 2022. After a UCF win at No. 2 doubles, Valeriya Rozenkova/Maria Berlanga pushed the 29th ranked doubles team in the country to a tiebreaker, narrowly falling at the end.

The Hurricane held its ground in singles play, as Laia Conde Monfort and Hutchings both won their opening set, while Shura Poppe forced a third set in her singles match. UCF's Jaleesa Leslie edged out Berlanga at the end of the second set, 7-5, to clinch the victory for the Knights. UCF is now on a seven-match win streak.

TU returns to action on Friday, April 15th, when the Hurricane host Denver at 3 p.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Hurricane have two matches left in the regular season before the conference tournament begins on April 20th.
