Tulsa Overpowers Omaha 7-0 in Dual Season Opener

TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa women's tennis team came out strong against Omaha (0-3), earning a 7-0 sweep over the Mavericks Saturday during the Tulsa Invite held in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Golden Hurricane doubles team Laia Conde Monfort and Ana Naranjo Martinez seized the advantage to open doubles play. After a back-and-forth start to take the lead 3-2, the duo cruised to three straight game wins to win 6-2 over Zoe Adkins and Addison Miller.

TU clinched the doubles point when Amy Leather and Myroslava Zelenchuk earned a decisive 6-2 victory over Keegan VanPelt and Lillian Tiemeyer.

Monfort started off the scoring in singles action, dropping only two games in her two-set victory over Jessica Aragon at No. 1 singles. Maria Berlanga Bandera followed up in No. 2 singles with a nine-game run after starting the first set of her match with Ines Absisan 3-2.

The dual win was clinched for the Hurricane when Lily Hutchings took down Zoe Adkins 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Hutchings rattled off six straight game wins in each set to erase 0-2 and 0-1 deficits.

The Hurricane will finish Saturday with the singles portion of the Louisiana Tech match. TU will resume action at 9 a.m. Sunday with the doubles portion of the Louisiana Tech match, followed by a full match against Wyoming.
