Tulsa Women Close Out Weekend With Wins Over LA Tech and Wyoming

TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa women's tennis team defeated LA Tech (2-1) and Wyoming (0-3) to finish out the Tulsa Invite Sunday in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Tulsa's 6-1 victory over the Bulldogs and 7-0 win over the Cowgirls moved the Golden Hurricane's record to 3-0 on the season.

The Hurricane played the singles portion of the LA Tech dual on Saturday after defeating Omaha 7-0. Freshman Amy Leather clinched the dual for the Hurricane at No. 5 singles when she took down the Bulldogs' Alexia Romero. The Bath, England, native took advantage at 2-1 in the first set and never looked back, going on a nine-game run and dropping only one game on the way to a 6-1, 6-1 decision.

TU swept LA Tech in doubles play, capped off by a 7-5 decision by Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings over Leonie Schuknecht and Najah Dawson at No. 1 doubles. Neither team led by more than two games during the match

In the dual versus Wyoming, Tulsa opened up the scoring with the doubles point that was clinched by Laia Conde Monfort and Ana Naranjo Martinez. The duo took down Violetta Borodina and Maria Oreshkina 6-3.

Five of six TU women needed only two sets to take down their Wyoming opponents. Lian Benedejcic scored the Hurricane's seventh point when she emerged victorious in a back-and-forth contest with Nikol Dobrilova. Neither athlete led by more than two points in the second and third sets.

The Hurricane will return to action this weekend to host No. 13 Oklahoma State (0-0), starting at noon on Saturday, Jan. 21.
