Golden Hurricane Heads to Cincinnati for Wednesday Meeting

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The University of Tulsa men's basketball team is on the road to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats Wednesday evening in Fifth Third Arena.
Tipoff for the American Athletic Conference matchup is set for 6 p.m. CT and will air on ESPN+. Anthony Mazzini and Kevin Johnson will bring fans the action. Bruce Howard and JR Rollo will broadcast the radio call on Big Country 99.5 FM and The Varsity Network app.
Tulsa (5-15, 1-8 The American) and Cincinnati (14-8, 5-4 conference) meet for the only time in the regular season and brings to a close Tulsa's games in Cincinnati as The American foes.
It will be the 46th meeting between the two schools in a series Cincinnati leads 31-14. Tulsa is 3-19 as the road team but did beat the Bearcats 70-66 on Jan. 2, 2021, which snapped an eight-game skid on the road that dated back to 1967. The teams split the series a year ago. Cincinnati took the game at home 90-69 thanks to 16 3-pointers. Tulsa got revenge on Legends Night, taking down the Bearcats 83-77.
The Golden Hurricane seeks its first road win of the season on Wednesday. Tulsa comes in after falling to Memphis 80-68 in the Reynolds Center on Sunday. The Hurricane held Kendric Davis to seven points in the first half, but the guard erupted for 19 in the second as Memphis used a 15-2 run midway through the half to take command of the game.
Tim Dalger paced Tulsa with 17 points, his third-straight game in double figures and seventh overall. Sam Griffin also had 15 and freshman BB Knight scored a season-high eight points in the loss. Bryant Selebangue pulled down nine rebounds to lead Tulsa.
Griffin and Selebangue continue to lead Tulsa in scoring, averaging 15.8 and 13.0 per game. Selebangue is the team's leader in rebounds, grabbing 9.3, which leads the conference and is 33rd in the nation. His 65.5 shooting percentage leads the conference and puts him top-10 nationally.
Anthony Pritchard's assists numbers have increased lately as he Is now sixth in the conference, averaging 4.3 per game. The sophomore has 85 assists on the season, beating last season's 80. He had finished fifth on Tulsa's freshman assists leaderboards before an injury cut his season short.
Cincinnati welcomes Tulsa after dropping a close game 75-69 at Houston on Saturday. The Bearcats led by as many as 13, but the Cougars roared back to take only its second lead of the game at the 3:51 mark.
Landers Nolley II, a transfer from Memphis, has emerged in a big way for Cincinnati, leading the team at 15.9 points per game. He's incredibly efficient from 3-point range, knocking down 45.5 percent (60-of-132) of his long balls, which is second only to Brandon Betson in the conference and is 10th nationally. He has scored in double figures in 12 straight games and 17 on the season.
The Bearcats as a team shoot the 3-ball well, which will clash with Tulsa's 3-point defense. Cincinnati leads the conference, hitting 36.1 percent of its triples, which is 73rd in the nation. On the other side, Tulsa holds opponents to 29.9 percent, which is 28th nationally. In the past five games, Hurricane opponents have shot just 26.4 percent from three (28-of-106)
Following Wednesday's game, Tulsa will return to the friendly confines of the Reynolds Center to host longtime rivals Wichita State on Sunday afternoon. The rematch from the earlier 69-73 loss is set for 2 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
