TAMPA, Fla. — The University of Tulsa men's basketball team will face South Florida in the regular season finale on Wednesday evening in the Yuengling Center.
Tipoff for the American Athletic Conference matchup is set for 6 p.m. (CT) and will air on ESPN+. Jim Louk and Sean Salisbury will bring fans the action. Bruce Howard and Pooh Williamson will broadcast the radio call on Big Country 99.5 FM and The Varsity Network app.
The Bulls (13-16, 6-10 The American) will celebrate senior day against Tulsa (5-23, 1-16 The American) as the teams meet for the 14th time in the series. The Golden Hurricane lead the all-time series 12-1 and have won all six meetings in Tampa. However, the Bulls grabbed its first win against Tulsa two weeks ago in convincing fashion, beating TU 96-69 in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Wednesday will be Tulsa's final chance to grab a road win this season, having dropped 11 straight this season. TU will attempt to close the regular season on a high note by beating the Bulls and winning the second conference game of the season. Tulsa is coming off a Senior Day loss to UCF on Sunday. Tulsa was held to a Reynolds Center low 14 points in the opening half but scored 35 in the second half in a 68-49 loss.
Sam Griffin has missed the past two games with injuries but continues to lead the team in scoring, averaging 15.1 points per game. He is five points shy of reaching 400 for the Golden Hurricane in consecutive seasons. He and Brandon Betson lead the team with 63 and 56 3-pointers, respectively.
South Florida enters on a two-game winning streak, which includes completing a season sweep against in-state rival UCF. Transfer guard Tyler Harris paces the team in scoring, averaging 17.1 points per game, which ranks sixth in the conference. The senior also dishes out 3.5 assists and shoots better than 40 percent from three.
Russel Tchewa is the team's leader in boards, pulling down 8.6 per game. He and Bryant Selebangue went shot for shot in the first meeting, each scoring 21 points. Selebangue edged out his counterpart in rebounding, grabbing 10 boards to Tchewa's eight.
After facing the Bulls, Tulsa will await the weekend slate of games to find out who its opponents are for the conference tournament. The American Athletic Conference Championship is set to tip next Thursday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
