No. 75 Hurricane Ends Regular Season With 4-1 Rout Over Memphis

ORLANDO, Fla. — After a six-and-a-half-hour weather delay, The University of Tulsa women's tennis team dominated the Memphis Tigers (8-11) on the way to a 4-1 win to end the regular season at the USTA National Campus.

The win puts the Golden Hurricane at 13-10 overall heading into the conference championship on Wednesday, April 19.

TU scored the doubles point thanks to a 6-1 win by Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings in the first position and a 6-0 blank by Laia Conde Monfort and Ana Naranjo Martinez in the second position.

Monfort carried the momentum into singles play, putting Tulsa up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 result in the first position for her fourth win in her last six completed matches.

After the Tigers grabbed a straight-set win at Singles No. 4, Berlanga extended TU's lead to 3-1 with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Memphis' Aran Teixido Garcia. Berlanga ends the regular season as the Hurricane's singles leader with an 18-9 overall record and a 14-5 record at the No. 2 position.

Clinching and ending the dual match at 4-1 was sophomore Lily Hutchings in the third position, prevailing 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in a back-and-forth battle.

The American Athletic Conference Championships are set to begin on Wednesday, April 19, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. Tournament seedings will be based on Tuesday's ITA team rankings.
