Tulsa Softball Set to Host #1 Oklahoma Sooners

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa softball will play in front of its home crowd one last time this season as the Golden Hurricane welcomes the nation's top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners at the Collins Family Softball Complex Tuesday.
The Sooners and Hurricane were scheduled to play last Wednesday, but the game was moved to Tuesday due to inclement weather. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. and will be played in front of a sold-out crowd. The game will air on ESPN+ with Bruce Howard bringing fans the action. Eric Bailey of the Tulsa World will join him as the color analyst and Michelle Montaine will be the game's sideline reporter.
Tulsa will close the week with the final conference series of the regular season as TU travels to Greenville, N.C. to face East Carolina. The series will start with a 4 p.m. first pitch on Friday. Saturday's game two is set for one in the afternoon and Sunday's finale is an early one as Tulsa and the Pirates are scheduled to begin at 10 in the morning.
The Golden Hurricane enters the week with a 20-26 record, 6-9 in The American, after falling in all three games to No. 19/21 Wichita State over the weekend. Friday's action was halted due to rain with the score 2-2 in the fifth inning. When play resumed on Saturday, the Shockers were able to pull away for the 8-2 win. Wichita State took game two 17-2. Tulsa took an early lead in Sunday's finale but was unable to take advantage of opportunities as WSU scored twice in the sixth to steal a 2-1 win away and complete the sweep.
Oklahoma (45-1, 15-0 Big 12) rides a nation-leading 37-game winning streak into its final nonconference game of the season. The Sooners clinched their 11th straight Big 12 title with a sweep of Kansas over the weekend.
The Sooners hold the advantage in the series against the Golden Hurricane, winning 46 of the 56 previous matchups including 12 straight. The Golden Hurricane is 6-14 at home against the Sooners with the last win at home coming on March 23, 2011, a 1-0 win.
East Carolina is 27-24 heading into its final series of the regular season, but the Pirates are just 3-12 in conference play. ECU won its series against Memphis, taking two of three, and won a game off Houston. The Pirates had a bye week in conference play over the weekend and instead played a doubleheader with NC State on Saturday, losing 4-2 in the first game before bouncing back to win 4-1.
Tulsa has largely dominated the series against ECU, enjoying a 37-13 record against the Pirates, including winning 17-of-26 matchups in Greenville. The Hurricane has won seven straight in the series and 23 of the past 25 games against East Carolina.
With her two-run home run on Saturday, Haley Morgan joins Claira Skaggs and Rylee Keith with five homers on the season. The center fielder is batting .396 to lead the team and sit third in the conference. She's driven in 25 runs, second best on the team, and leads the Golden Hurricane with 41 runs scored. Imani Edwards and MacKenzie Denson join Morgan in hitting above .300 for the season as the pair hit .379 and .339, respectively.
In conference play, Morgan and Edwards have been phenomenal. Both are hitting well above .400 and have higher slugging percentages and on-base percentages as well. Also stepping up is the senior Keith, who has four home runs in league play with a team-high 11 RBI. Bearpaw picked up her 11th RBI of conference play against Wichita State, giving her a team-leading 30 on the season.
Maura Moore brings a 3.09 ERA into the week's action. She has 11 complete games and five shutouts in 2023. The sophomore has fanned 100 batters while holding opponents to a .241 batting average, both stats top the team.
