FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Senior transfer Pierce Rollins—formerly a four-year letterwinner for the Texas A&M Aggies—emerged as the overall winner Sunday at the Fayetteville portion of the Universal Tennis Pro Tennis Tour. Rollins, a native of Tulsa, went 6-0 over the course of the event and earned a 7-5, 6-3 win over Melvin Manuel in the championship to bring home his first tournament title as a Golden Hurricane. Tulsa athletes combined for 17 total wins across the week's action.
The seven-day tournament featured 23 singles players divided into four draws. The players with the best overall records after four matches in their respective draws advanced to four-man playoffs to determine first through fifth-place overall finishers.
Sophomore Timothy Carlsson Seger went 3-3 in the tournament and finished fourth overall after grabbing a 7-5, 6-4 win over Jake Sweeney and a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Foster Rogers in the fourth-place playoffs.
Alex Okonkwo, a true freshman from Maidenhead, England, went 3-1 in the Group A draw, while another true freshman, Victor Tosetto of Porto Alegre, Brazil, went 2-2 overall with a semifinal exit in the third-place playoffs.
Sophomore Gus Tettamble had a semifinal exit in the fourth-place bracket following a three-set battle (3-6, 7-6(4), 0-6). Senior Volodymyr Zakharov came short in the fifth-place playoffs after earning a 6-2, 6-4 win in the semifinal and a 5-7, 5-7 loss in the final.
