Tulsa Women Take Season Opener Over Omaha 7-0

TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa women's tennis team began the 2024 spring season Saturday morning with a 7-0 victory over the Omaha Mavericks at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Tulsa took an early 1-0 lead over the Mavericks by capturing the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots.

In singles play, all six Tulsa players earned two-set victories. The number 1-3 positions were on the court first and Tulsa added to the doubles point with three victories for a 4-0 lead. At No 1, Maria Berlanga went to a tiebreaker in the second set to claim a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Paula Arcarons, and winning the tiebreaker 7-3.

Oleksandra Nahurska and Lily Hutchings took the wins at No 2 and 3 slots. Nahurska went 6-2, 6-3 and Hutchings on 6-1, 6-2. Ana Naranjo and Myroslava Zelenchuk at the No. 4 and 5 positions, respectively, captured straight set shutouts 6-0, 6-0 over their Omaha singles opponents.

Freshman Tayla Wilmot gave Tulsa its final point in the 7-0 victory with a 6-4, 6-0 decision at the No. 6 position.

As part of the four-team, two-day Hurricane Invite will continue Sunday as Tulsa will play LA Tech and Wyoming.
