TULSA, Okla. –– After picking up the first road win of the season, the University of Tulsa men's basketball team is ready to welcome longtime rival Wichita State as the Golden Hurricane and Shockers face off in a nationally televised game in the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Wednesday evening.

Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. and will air on ESPNU with Mike Corey and Mark Adams bringing fans the action. Fans can also catch the game on Big Country 99.5 FM and the Varsity Network app. Bruce Howard and JR Rollo have the call.

Tulsa (11-8, 2-5 The American) and Wichita State (9-11, 1-6 The American) have played each other 140 times since first meeting in 1931. The teams were fierce rivals in The Missouri Valley Conference from 1945-1996 before Tulsa departed for the WAC. The two met as nonconference foes 13 times, including every season since 2010, until the Shockers joined the American in 2017.

Wichita State leads the all-time series 77-63 and have won 20 of the last 23 games, which includes all three last season. The Hurricane is 36-32 at home, but 4-8 in the Reynolds Center.

TU enters Wednesday's matchup after grabbing its first road win of the season at Rice. Tulsa saw a late lead dwindle down to just two but held on for the win after a couple of clutch defensive plays from Jared Garcia. PJ Haggerty scored 21 points, all in the final 20:01 of the game, to lead Tulsa. His first bucket came on a fastbreak layup as time expired in the opening half after jumping a pass. On Monday, he was named the conference's Freshman of the Week for the eighth time this season.

Cobe Williams added 19 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals. The graduate senior continues to shoot the ball well from deep. He's now connected on 23 of his last 55 shots (41.8 percent) from 3-point range. Over this nine-game stretch, Williams has made multiple 3-pointers per contest, including three against the Owls. Not to be outdone, his fellow Williams, Carlous, has also had a hot hand from deep. The junior JUCO transfer is shooting 13-of-27 (48.1 percent) on the 3-ball in conference play after going 3-of-15 in the nonconference.

The Shockers come to Tulsa after snapping an eight-game losing streak with a 77-72 win over SMU on Sunday. It was the first league win for head coach Paull Mills, who is in his first season at Wichita State. Mills is no stranger to rivalries with the Hurricane after spending his first six seasons as a head coach with crosstown rival Oral Roberts. He's 2-3 against Tulsa in his career.

Colby Rogers leads four Shockers who average double figures in scoring, putting up 15.3 points per game. Xavier Bell (11.9), Harlond Beverly (10.5) and Kenny Pohto (10.3) are the other three. Quincy Ballard is a force down low, averaging 2.3 blocks per contest. His 46 blocks ranks 15th nationally.

Following Wednesday's game, the Hurricane has a quick turnaround as the team heads to Boca Raton, Fla. for the first conference matchup with Florida Atlantic. Tipoff for the Saturday evening matchup is set for 5 p.m. (CT) and will air on ESPN+.
