
Tulsa Wins Four-Set Battle with Florida Atlantic

Tulsa, Okla. — Tulsa volleyball returned home on Friday night to take on Florida Atlantic, winning 3-1(25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 25-21) over the Owls. The Hurricanes boosted their record to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Florida Atlantic moved to 10-7 overall and 2-3 in the AAC.
With an early lead in the first set, Florida Atlantic could not surpass the Hurricane leading to a first and second set win for Tulsa. Set three was dominated by Florida Atlantic leading them to their only set win of the night. Tulsa returned and fought for the victory to win set four and close the match.
Tulsa's offense proved to be very successful once again coming under the direction of junior setter Brayden Hipp. Hipp put together a total of 42 assists. The success did not stop there as she also collected 20 digs on the night earning her another double-double on the season making it her 11th on the year.
The attacking game was led by a trio of Hurricane with Rachel Brown, Tatum Tornatta, and Beth Bayless in tandem. Collectively, the trio put up 38 of the 53 team kills boasting success over the Owls' 52 team kills.
Defensively, Tulsa posted 69 digs with Brayden Hipp and Marta Pecalli each contributing 20 digs and averaging 5.0 digs per set. Tally Grissom posting 11 digs and averaging 3.6 digs per set also helped on the defensive side. The Hurricane also found success in shutting down the attacking Owls with 11 team blocks with five block assists from Tytiana Johnson and 4 block assists from Rachel Brown.
"Brayden [Hipp] was a huge part to our success", senior Rachel Brown commented. "She really knows how to deliver a good ball and work with the passes that she gets. We knew that they were an aggressive serving team, and the solid passing allowed me to get some good swings at the net."
The Hurricane are back in action inside the Donald W. Reynalds Center on Sunday, October 13th at 1p.m. as they take on the No. 2 in the conference Bulls of South Florida.

How It Happened
SET 1 | After opening the match with short runs by both sides the Owls broke away with a seven-point run to bring the game to 10-15 until a kill from Tally Grissom put an end to it and brought the lead back down to four for the Owls. The game remained neck and neck until TU was able to close out the set 25-23
SET 2 | TU maintained control of the lead for the entire set only being tied twice with Florida Atlantic. A six-point scoring run at 9-7 led by the service of Regan Pendleton propelled the Hurricane out to a 14-7 lead until they were able to close the set with a 25-17 win on the Owls.
SET 3 | The Owls maintained a close eye on the Hurricane until they were able to construct an 8-3 scoring run to push them from a 10-7 deficit to a 15-13 lead. The Hurrican having nine attack errors led to the fall of the Hurricane as the Owls won the set 25-19 in their largest lead of the night.
Set 4 | TU came out hungry for the win in the fourth set as they built upon an early and constant lead over Florida Atlantic. The match was framed with the .304 hitting percentage of the Hurricane and the perfect serving percentage of 1.000 for the fourth set win 25-21.
