TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa women's tennis team is set to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional Championships Wednesday, Oct. 9, through Monday, Oct. 14 to open the individuals-only fall slate.
The 13 regional championships around the country this month will produce more participants for the NCAA Championships (Nov. 19-24). The singles finalists (26 total) and the doubles champions (13 total) in each region will punch their tickets to Waco.
This year's women's central regional will be hosted by the University of Memphis and showcase players from Tulsa, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa, Wichita State, Nebraska and the hosting Tigers of Memphis. The singles bracket will have a qualifying draw of a minimum of 64 competitors filtering into a 64-player main draw, and the doubles bracket will feature a main draw of 32 with a 32-minimum qualifying draw.
The 2024-25 Golden Hurricane roster – led by 20th-year Head Coach Dean Orford – will see all nine of its players in the central regional.
Tulsa returns six players from its NIT Tournament championship squad from a year ago, including seniors Maria Berlanga Bandera, Lily Hutchings and Ana Naranjo Martinez and sophomores Erin McKenzie, Saniya Singh and Tayla Wilmot.
The Hurricane welcomes three newcomers who will see their first action this week as Tulsa student-athletes. Senior transfer Mariana Manyoma Velasquez adds veteran experience to the team after spending one season at UT Arlington and two years at Kansas. True freshmen Isabella Basson (Pretoria, South Africa) and Eda Numanoglu (Istanbul, Turkey) round out the nine-woman roster.
