Tulsa was seeded as the No. 5 seed in the tournament after finishing with a 10-6 record in conference play and splitting a pair of games with UTSA and Memphis in the final week of the regular season. Tulsa looks to capitalize on a rematch with the Shockers as they were unable to overtake Wichita State in the previous two meetings. Tulsa faced Wichita State for the first time this season on November 1st and fell in a 3-1 (13-25, 25-22, 19-25, 23-25) score. In the second meeting two days later, Tulsa once again had a similar story with a 3-1 (19-25, 23-25, 25-23, 21-25) loss.
Since joining the American Athletic Conference in 2014, Tulsa has not found a win in the conference tournament. The last appearance for the Golden Hurricane came in 2019 but ended after a loss to UCF in a 3-1 decision in the first round with the last conference tournament occurring in 2019. Prior to joining the AAC, Tulsa was the C-USA Tournament Champion in 2012.
Tulsa found its most recent post-season win in the 2023 season while competing in the NIVC. The Hurricane grabbed a 3-1 win over Kansas City in round one before falling 3-1 at the hands of Wichita State in round two action.
Tulsa looks to turn around the long trend of Wichita's winning streak as the last win for Tulsa came in 2019 in a five-set battle with a 3-2 final score. Tulsa last won on the road with the Shockers hosting in 1979 and have not been able to take a match from them since. However, Tulsa has been fighting to be a top spot in the conference as Head Coach Lauren Ramatowski continues to improve the program in her second year while maintaining the best win percentage since 2014. The Hurricane currently sit with an 18-10 overall record with a .643 win percentage.
