TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa men's tennis team squared up with Princeton for the second time this season following the Golden Hurricane's 4-3 win two weeks ago, but the Tigers got their revenge Friday, earning their own 4-3 decision in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Golden Hurricane fell to 3-3 on the year, while the Tigers improved to 5-3.
Â
Doubles play was all Princeton as the Tigers would take positions two and three by 6-2 scores to claim a crucial opening score. Senior duo Pierce Rollins and Thiago Pernas left their match unfinished at 4-3.
Â
Senior Callum Gale put TU on the board in singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 Singles. Gale took advantage of 3-1 leads in both sets of his match to cruise to a two-set win. He is 8-2 in his last 10 singles matches.
Â
Princeton would take a 3-1 lead on the night with straight-set victories in the third and sixth positions.
Â
Sophomore Timothy Carlsson Seger helped Tulsa trim the deficit to 3-2 when he took down his Tiger opponent in three sets in the fifth slot. In Seger's first set, he scored the first game point but gave up multiple two-point runs to his opponent to fall 6-4. In the next two frames, Seger never trailed on the way to back-to-back 6-3 finishes to move to 2-1 in the spring season.
Â
The team win was clinched at 4-2 for Princeton when the Tigers' Top Nidunjianzan topped Pernas 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 at the No. 2 position. Electing to finish his match, Rollins battled through consecutive tiebreaker sets with a 6-3 finish in his third stanza to claim the No. 1 slot and conclude the dual match at 4-3 Princeton.
Â
The Tulsa men head to Waco, Texas, to face Baylor (6-1) on Sunday, Feb. 11, at noon.
