TULSA, Okla. — The No. 72 Tulsa men's tennis team hit the outdoors courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center Thursday and engaged in a home doubleheader against the New Mexico State Aggies, finishing on top 7-0 and 4-0 to improve to 8-11 overall. The Aggies dropped to 6-11 on the year.

The Golden Hurricane started the first match at noon with the doubles point in hand, thanks to wins in all three positions of play. The freshman pair of Alex Okonkwo and Victor Tosetto cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 3 Doubles to get things started followed by a 6-3 decision from seniors Thiago Pernas and Pierce Rollins in the No. 1 spot for the doubles clinch. Senior Callum Gale and redshirt freshman Gus Tettamble finished out their match in the second position and came out on top 7-5.

Okonkwo and Tosetto earned their sixth consecutive victory together and improved their squad-leading spring record to 8-2.

In singles play, sophomore Timothy Carlsson Seger got things going with a strong 6-0, 6-1 win to put Tulsa up 2-0. Seger never trailed against Luca Fe D'Ostiani on the way to improving to 12-9 on the year.

Shortly after, Tulsa rattled off three straight wins within a 30-second span, starting with Alex Okonkwo (6-3, 6-4) in the sixth position followed by the team-clinching win by Gale (6-2, 6-3) in the third spot and a straight-set victory by senior Volodymyr Zakharov (6-2, 6-2) in the fourth slot.

Pernas would add a 7-5, 6-1 win in the No. 2 position before Rollins capped off the dual match at No. 1 Singles with a 10-point tiebreak set at two sets all, ending in the Tulsa native's favor 10-7 for a final result of 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 [10-7].

Tulsa carried the momentum into the evening match, grabbing the doubles point in two position victories as Okonkwo and Tosetto earned a perfect 6-0 sweep in the No. 2 position and Pernas and Seger, who paired up for the first time, battled their way to a 6-1 victory. Gale and Tettamble left their No. 1 doubles match unfinished.

The Hurricane would cruise to a 4-0 clinch victory in singles play as Seger, Tosetto and Tettamble grabbed straight-set victories in the Nos. 3, 5 and 6 positions, respectively, to seal Tulsa's eighth win of the season. Tosetto improved his team-leading overall record to 14-11 while Tettamble is now 7-2 in his last nine completed singles matches.

The Tulsa men will hit the road for Kansas to play fellow American Athletic Conference member Wichita State (4-16) on Monday, April 1, with first serves at noon.
