OAK RIDGE, Tenn. –– The Tulsa rowers will be seeking their first American Athletic Conference Championship Sunday, May 12 at Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The action begins at 9 a.m. (ET)/8 a.m. (CT) and will air on ESPN+

Tulsa finished second last year behind three-time defending champion SMU. The Mustangs garnered 168 points last year to Tulsa's 140, followed by UCT (112), Temple (108), Sacramento State (72) and Old Dominion (48).

The team championship and NCAA automatic qualifier will be determined by the points accrued in the three NCAA events: Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 4. The teams will also compete in the Second Varsity 4.

Tulsa is seeded first in the Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8. SMU is seeded first in the Varsity 4, while Sacramento State is the top seed in the Second Varsity 4.

"We're really excited about the championship. It's been a balancing act in our preparations with our students-athletes going through final exams this past week,' said Tulsa Head Coach Brandon Campbell.

"Looking at the results of the other teams this year. Temple has found some real late season speed. SMU is a really strong team and we've had some really competitive races against Sacramento State and Old Dominion," Campbell added. "It's looking like a scenario that a different school can win each event, so if that happens it will come down on points to decide the champion."

"It's a team sport, so it's going to take all three of our boats to have their absolute best results on race day."

The American's team champion will earn automatic qualification to the 2024 NCAA Rowing Championships, to be held May 31-June 2 at East Fork/Harsha Lake in Bethel, Ohio.
