Women’s Tennis Goes 3-0 to Conclude Hurricane Invite

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa women's tennis team wrapped up the Hurricane Invite Sunday in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center with the doubles portion of the Arkansas State contest and followed with a full dual match against Louisiana Tech, completing a 5-2 winner over the Red Wolves (2-1) and earning a strong 6-1 decision against the Bulldogs (1-2).

The Golden Hurricane met the season-opening standard this weekend with an undefeated 3-0 performance.

Senior Maria Berlanga Bandera took care of business in both of the No. 1 positions, earning straight-set victories in both singles matches. She improved to 10-2 in singles action this school year with wins in seven of her last eight matches dating back to the fall.

In doubles, Berlanga and senior partner Lily Hutchings, who together rank No. 26 in the nation, locked up two more wins on Sunday to move to an impressive 9-1 mark on the year.

Senior transfer Mariana Manyoma Velasquez also had a perfect weekend, going 3-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles action. She rose to 6-2 in singles and 10-3 in doubles on the year.

The Tulsa women will host Oral Roberts next on Friday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. in the Case Tennis Center.
