Tulsa Women Take Care of Business with 7-0 Sweep of Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa women's tennis team got a tune-up Friday afternoon with a perfect 7-0 sweep over Oral Roberts on the indoor courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
TU's 44th consecutive win over ORU puts the Golden Hurricane at 4-0 to start the year.
After sophomore Tayla Wilmot and freshman Isabella Basson cleared Doubles No. 3 with a 6-1 decision, 26th-ranked Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings clinched the opening score with a 6-2 winner atop the lineup. The senior pair have earned their 10th win together this season, improving to 10-1.
Senior duo Ana Naranjo Martinez and Mariana Manyoma Velasquez cleaned up the second doubles line with a 6-1 victory.
All of TU's singles players earned decisive straight-set victories. The first to finish was Wilmot, who had the best showing among all Hurricane athletes with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the third spot.
After sophomore Erin McKenzie (6-3, 6-1) took care of the fourth slot, Naranjo clinched the team victory at 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 two-setter at Singles No. 5.
Loading up wins in the back half of singles action was Hutchings at No. 1, freshman Eda Numanoglu at No. 6 and Velasquez at No. 2, capping off the day with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Chara Grammtikaki.
Tulsa will be back in the Case Tennis Center on Sunday, Jan. 19, against Central Arkansas for a 10 a.m. tilt.
