Tulsa Women’s Tennis to Host Oral Roberts and Central Arkansas

TULSA, Okla. — The 3-0 Tulsa women's tennis squad is back in action this weekend as the Golden Hurricane will host cross-town foe Oral Roberts (0-0) on Friday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. and Central Arkansas (0-0) on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 10 a.m. in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Scouting Oral Roberts
  • The series between Tulsa and ORU has been dominated by the Golden Hurricane, who are 46-6 against the Golden Eagles with wins in the last 43 consecutive meetings.
  • March 1, 1990 was the last time Oral Roberts beat Tulsa. It was a 6-3 decision at TU.
  • Oral Roberts went 7-14 last spring with a first-round exit in the Summit League Championship.
 
Scouting Central Arkansas
  • Sunday marks the fourth all-time meeting with Central Arkansas. Tulsa leads the series 3-0 with each dual match being held in Tulsa so far.
  • Tulsa won last year's meeting 6-1 in the Case Tennis Center.
  • Central Arkansas went 11-13 a year ago. They fell in their last four dual matches of the season.

  • Seniors Maria Berlanga Bandera and Mariana Manyoma Velasquez are each 3-0 in both modes of play entering the weekend's action.
  • Berlanga won three straight at the top of the singles and doubles lineups last week in the Hurricane Invite, while Velasquez took care of business at No. 2 Doubles and No. 3 Singles.
  • Berlanga took all of her matches in straight sets.
 
Last Time Out
  • The Hurricane met the season-opening standard last weekend, going 3-0 to start the year.
  • TU grabbed a 6-1 win over Wyoming, a 5-2 decision over Arkansas State and a 6-1 rout of Louisiana Tech.
  • No. 26 Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings had a perfect weekend and rose to 3-0. Berlanga and Mariana Manyoma Velasquez each went 3-0 in singles action.
