Women’s Tennis Ends Home Stretch against Ole Miss, Kansas City

TULSA, Okla. — The undefeated Tulsa women's tennis team (8-0) will welcome Ole Miss (4-1) and Kansas City (0-1) to the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 1-2. Both dual matches start at 10 a.m. each day with an Ole Miss-Kansas City match to be played at 3 p.m. Saturday. The action for the Golden Hurricane this weekend ends an eight-match home tilt as TU's meeting with Oklahoma, originally scheduled to be a home match on Tuesday, Feb. 4, has been moved to Norman, Okla.

Facing the Rebels
- This will be the fifth meeting between TU and Ole Miss.
- The series is tied 2-2 with the Rebels winning the last two matchups.
- Ole Miss won last year's contest in Oxford, 5-2.
- The Rebels are off to a 4-1 start after grabbing wins over Memphis (4-2), Arkansas State (4-1), Tennessee State (4-0) and Utah (4-3) before falling 4-2 to Stanford at ITA Kickoff Weekend.
- Ludmila Kareisova headlines the lineup for Ole Miss as the only ranked player in the latest ITA Singles Ranking. She is No. 83 entering the weekend with a 11-5 overall record and a 3-0 mark at the No. 3 spot.
Scouting the Roos
- Sunday will be just the third meeting between the Golden Hurricane and the Roos.
- Tulsa leads the series 2-0 with both wins occurring in the Case Tennis Center. TU grabbed a 6-1 win in 2021 and followed with a 4-0 shutout in 2022.
- Although the Roos are 0-1 to start the year, Sunday will be their third match after they take on Ole Miss on Tulsa's home courts Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
- Kansas City went 5-14 last year with losses in their last five matches.
Undefeated Starts
- Seniors Mariana Manyoma-Velasquez, Maria Berlanga Bandera and Ana Naranjo Martinez are undefeated this spring across both modes of play.
- Manyoma-Velasquez and Berlanga are each 11-0 with 5-0 showings in singles play and 6-0 marks in doubles action.
- Manyoma-Velasquez has held down the No. 2 doubles position and the 3-spot in singles, while Berlanga headlines both lineups at No. 1.
- At 10-0 is Naranjo, who's won all six doubles matches with Manyoma-Velasquez at the two-spot and earned four singles victories so far with the last three coming at the fifth position.
- Senior Lily Hutchings is perfect at 6-0 in doubles play after holding down the No. 1 doubles line with Berlanga. Her freshman teammate Isabella Basson is 4-0 in the third doubles post.
Tulsa in the ITA Rankings
- Central region-winning duo Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings remain the 26th-highest-ranked pair in Division I according to the latest ITA Doubles Rankings.
- The seniors are 12-1 overall together this year and 6-0 in dual matches, grabbing all six consecutive victories atop the lineup.
- The next singles and doubles rankings drop on Feb. 5, at 10 a.m.
Seniors Approaching All-Time TU Career Win Lists
- Maria Berlanga Bandera has 70 career doubles wins entering the weekend's action. She passed Marta Marcinkowska (2006-09) for 12th on the all-time Tulsa doubles win chart last time out.
- Berlanga also has 70 singles wins. She needs eight more to pass Ksenia Laskutova's (2014-18) 77 victories for 11th.
- Lily Hutchings maintains 69 doubles triumphs and 60 wins in singles play, ranking 13th in TU doubles history with Marcinkowska and needs 18 more singles successes to pass Laskutova in the TU record books.
- Ana Naranjo Martinez is right behind her teammates in the doubles chart with 68 wins for 14th. She also has 45 singles victories under her belt.
Last Time Out
- Tulsa dismantled Stephen F. Austin 6-1 on the indoor courts of the Case Tennis Center for its sixth win in a row. TU won the doubles point and five of six of the singles positions with Isabella Basson capping the day with a 3-6, 6-2, [14-12] result in the sixth slot.
