Tulsa Off to Best Start Since 2009-10 After Fifth Win in a Row

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa men's basketball team is off to its best start at 8-1 since 2009-10 after a 98-74 victory over Missouri State on Saturday in the Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane have now won five straight, and the win matches the best start in the career of head coach Eric Konkol.

David Green led Tulsa with 17 points, converting three 3-pointers and adding two free throws. Ade Popoola contributed with 11 points, hitting three from beyond the arc and dishing out five assists. Myles Rigsby made an impact off the bench with 14 points, converting all eight of his free throw attempts and collecting two steals. Tyler Behrend recorded nine points and seven rebounds, while adding three assists.

Tulsa (8-1) and the Bears (4-4) began the game with Trey Williams Jr. hitting an early 3-pointer for the visitors. Tulsa quickly responded with a layup from Behrend, initiating a back-and-forth scoring exchange. The home team found momentum with a series of 3-pointers, including one from Miles Barnstable at the 17:18 mark and another by Green at 8:14, which helped expand their lead. Popoola capped the half with a 3-pointer in the final seconds, bringing Tulsa to a 48-32 advantage at the end of the first half.

Tulsa extended their lead early in the second half with a 3-pointer from Tylen Riley, assisted by Green, just 18 seconds into play. Tulsa capitalized on Missouri State's turnovers, outscoring them 11-2 on points off turnovers. Green was instrumental, scoring both inside and outside, contributing to Tulsa's 18 points in the paint. Missouri State's Keith Palek III managed to keep the visitors competitive with multiple scoring contributions, but Tulsa's bench depth, accounting for 24 points, helped maintain a comfortable lead. The home team secured the half with a 98-74 victory.
