Golden Hurricane Men Finish as AAC Runner-up; Rowan Tabbed Freshman of the Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The University of Tulsa men's indoor track and field team put together 52 points Saturday to earn second place at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships with 94 total team points. Another brilliant long-distance performance helped catapult the men to a runner-up finish. In addition, freshman Levi Rowan, hailing from Kirkwood, Mo., earned AAC Indoor Men's Co-Freshman of the Year.

The Tulsa women's team finished 10th in league standings with 15 points. Overall, they would finish with five all-conference honorees, while the men produced 11 all-conference recipients.

South Florida earned the men's title with 167.5 points, and Tulane (96 points) edged out UTSA for first on the women's side.

Women
Junior duo Sarah Hosey and Billie Rouse took on the 800m final together. Hosey put together her best 800-mark in her career, finishing 2:09.04 for third, earning a spot on the podium and all-conference honors. Rouse took eighth in 2:19.19

TU earned four top 15 finishes in the 3,000m Saturday, with true freshman Sara Morefield pacing the Hurricane for 11th in 9:44.71.

Men
Like Hosey, sophomore Andrew Lutkenhaus took on the 800m final and earned himself a personal best and a spot on the podium for third in 1:49.70. His freshman teammate Joseph Snyder finished just outside the podium for fourth in 1:50.05.

For the second day in a row, the Tulsa men swept the podium in the marquee long-distance event of the meet, this time in the 3,000m. The Hurricane would combine for 34 points with seven runners earning top 10 spots.

Leading TU was redshirt senior Shay McEvoy, who took home the gold in 8:05.33. Freshman Levi Rowan followed in second in 8:07.14 and redshirt freshman Luke Birdseye took third in 8:07.61. Joining them in top 10 territory and scoring points for the team was redshirt sophomore Charlie Krasnoff (fourth), redshirt freshman Ben Brown (fifth), sophomore James Knockton (eighth) and redshirt junior Luke Lambert (ninth).

"When we sat down earlier in the week, we genuinely felt we'd be in a tough battle for third," Men's Head Coach Taylor Gulley said. "But then we had an amazing first day. We thought if we could just maintain that momentum, we'd have a really good chance. About halfway through today, we'd realized second may be in reach and every guy seemed to kick things up a notch. We flipped most battles on the last laps and guys consistently found a way to get the points needed. We hope we can build off this, because this was a massive step forward for the program. Pretty much every guy who traveled played a role and that's the sort of team we need to continue to develop into!

"Special shoutout to Levi Rowan for being Co-Freshman of the Year in the AAC. His progress has been incredible the last few weeks, and it's awesome to see him get the recognition he's earned."
