FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. / STANFORD, Calif. — The Tulsa track and field teams completed the outdoor regular season at Arkansas' John McDonnell Invitational and Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational, competing all day Friday and wrapping up Saturday in the early morning hours. The Golden Hurricane put together 18 new personal bests heading into the American Athletic Conference Championships (May 15-17).
Women
Eight women improved on their best times Friday, including freshman Matilda Laidlaw, who cruised to a 4:27.27 finish in the 1,500m for third, becoming the only Hurricane to reach the podium.
Both of Tulsa's triple jumpers set new bars for themselves as freshman Anaya Little took ninth in 11.47 meters and junior Rylie Hancock placed 10th in 11.38.
Men
On the men's side in Fayetteville, sophomore Andrew Lutkenhaus took fourth overall in the 800m, finishing just outside his personal best in 1:49.53.
The first men's runners in Stanford each set new personal bests as they got a chance to compete with some of the best long-distance runners in the nation.
Redshirt freshman Luke Birdseye and junior Oisin Spillane took on Section No. 2 of the 3,000m Steeplechase with Birdseye (9:00.10) placing first and Spillane (9:04.60) taking third out of nine competitors.
In the second section of the 5,000m, redshirt sophomore Charlie Krasnoff reached the podium in 13:53.99 for third, while freshman Levi Rowan finished right behind him at 13:56.28.
Concluding the week for TU was redshirt senior Shay McEvoy, who put together the program's eighth-best 5,000m performance in school history with a 13:40.30 mark, good for 11th overall in the 5,000m Invite. It's the second-best 5K result punched in by an AAC athlete this year. McEvoy also holds the league's top 10,000m time (28:22.95).
