CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Tulsa men's track team scored 13 points for fifth place on the opening day of the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships off the back of its four-man 10,000m contingent, led by a podium finish and all-conference performance by redshirt senior Shay McEvoy.

Women
Matilda Laidlaw shined for the women's team on Thursday. The true freshman from Cobham Surrey, England, qualified for the 1,500m final when she earned a fifth-place finish in the preliminary trial run in 4:33.81. She'll represent the Golden Hurricane in the final round on Saturday.

Men
Redshirt junior Sean Korsmo enjoyed a qualifying mark in the 1,500m trial on Thursday, crossing the line eighth overall and second in his heat in 3:49.95.

The 10,000m, Thursday's marquee event for Tulsa, was the final event of the day. Against tough competition under the stadium lights, three of the Golden Hurricane's four competitors earned top-10 finishes, with redshirt senior Shay McEvoy leading the way in 30:17.44 for third place overall, earning all-conference honors.
