Tulsa Continues to Roll, Wins Sixth Straight Behind 30-Point Performance by Riley

2/1/2026 5:33:00 PM | Men's Basketball

TULSA, Okla. -  The Tulsa men's basketball team ran its winning streak to six games behind a career performance by Tylen Riley as the Golden Hurricane cruised to a 93-83 win over Wichita State on Sunday in the Reynolds Center. Riley finished with a career-high 30 points as the Golden Hurricane scored 90-plus points against the Shockers for the first time since February 18, 1984. Tulsa has won three straight in the series, its longest such streak since winning 13 in a row from 1993-2002.

Riley was terrific offensively, going 9-for-11 from the field and 11-of-13 from the free throw line to get his 30 points. The junior scored 16 points in the second half and was perfect in five attempts from the field. He also added five rebounds and four assists, following a 20-point, 6-rebound performance in Wednesday's win over North Texas.

David Green added 19 points, including three 3-pointers, while collecting eight rebounds and recording two blocks. Miles Barnstable contributed 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting, with three 3-pointers and six rebounds. Ade Popoola finished with nine points and two steals, impacting both ends of the floor. Tulsa's bench finished with 19 points and was a combined 9-for-10 from the field.

Tulsa opened the game with efficient shooting, highlighted by Green's early 3-pointer at 18:29, setting the tone for a competitive first half. Popoola's defensive efforts, including a timely steal at 7:43, contributed to maintaining momentum. The half saw multiple lead changes, with both teams exchanging baskets frequently. Riley played a key role, assisting and scoring in crucial moments, including a jumper at 15:15 and a pivotal 3-pointer with 2:32 remaining. As the half wound down, Tulsa took the lead with Green's 3-pointer at 0:03, closing the first half ahead 43-39.

Tulsa capitalized on an early momentum shift in the second half, with Barnstable scoring a layup at 19:50, assisted by Tyler Behrend. Popoola added to the lead with a layup at 19:08, also assisted by Behrend, showcasing the Golden Hurricane's effective teamwork. Defensive efforts were highlighted by Behrend, who recorded a steal at 18:28, resulting in another scoring opportunity.

The Golden Hurricane maintained control throughout the half with consistent scoring, including a notable layup by Jaylen Lawal at 12:58, extending the lead. Popoola's 3-pointer at 11:24 further solidified Tulsa's advantage. The team's defensive rebounds and fast breaks, particularly by Myles Rigsby and Romad Dean, thwarted the Shockers' efforts to close the gap.

As the half concluded, Tulsa continued to apply pressure, leading to an 18-point advantage. Behrend and Riley contributed crucial free throws in the final minutes, ensuring a 93–83 lead for the Golden Hurricane at the end of the second half.

Tulsa hits the road for the next two in Florida, opening the week in Boca Raton as they face Florida Atlantic on Wednesday.
