Tulsa Battles in Tight 4-2 Loss to Kansas State

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Tulsa women's tennis fell to Kansas State, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Ark., dropping the Golden Hurricane to 4-4 on the season.
Kansas State secured the early advantage by taking courts two and three. Sasha Kyselova and Chanel Rustemova defeated Carolina Alonso and Maria Santos, 6-3, before Varvara Bernovich and Diana Smolinska topped Erin McKenzie and Lilitha Ndungane, 6-1, to clinch the doubles point. The No. 33 ranked Chogsomjav sisters' match against Isabella Basson and Tayla Wilmot on court one went unfinished at 4-3.
Tulsa evened momentum early in singles as Santos delivered a straight-set win over Kyselova, 6-3, 6-2, on court two. Kansas State responded with victories on courts four and one, as Smolinska defeated Alice Baba, 7-5, 6-2, and Maralgoo Chogsomjav rallied past Basson, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Wilmot kept the Hurricane within reach with a three-set battle on court five, defeating Bernovich, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Kansas State clinched the match on court six, where Rustemova earned a 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-1 victory over Ndungane. The contest on court three between Martaa Chogsomjav and Alonso was left unfinished at 6-3, 3-6, 6-6.
Tulsa will look to bounce back in its next match on Feb. 13, as the Golden Hurricane host Tulane at 5:00 p.m.
