Tulsa Rowing Team to Compete in Sarasota 2K

TULSA, Okla. — Coming off a successful home scrimmage against UCO last week, the Tulsa rowing squad will be back on the water this Friday and Saturday, March 27-28, to race in the Sarasota 2K at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.

The Golden Hurricane will have four boats hit the water on Friday, starting with the Varsity 4 boats. Sophomore Gizelle Medina will cox TU's 2v4+ shell at 1 p.m. CT, and true freshman Scout Barber will manage the 1v4+ crew at 2:40 p.m.

The eight-seat boats will promptly follow at 3:10 p.m., with senior Anna Lackner coxing the 1v8+ boat and senior Bri Gfroerer leading the 1v4+ boat at 4:00 p.m.

TU will be competing in qualifying-round races on Friday with all finals set for Saturday morning. Each qualifying race has three heats, and the top two boats from each heat will advance to Saturday's Final A races, where overall winners will be crowned in every boat category. The third and fourth-place finishers in each qualifying heat will participate in Final B races and the bottom two placers in each qualifying heat will compete in Final C contests.

Tulsa is one of six Big 12 teams and one of 18 total collegiate women's programs to partake in the regatta. Joining the Golden Hurricane on the water will be Albany, Boston College, Dartmouth, Drexel, High Point, Iowa, Jacksonville, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Old Dominion, Miami, Michigan State, North Carolina, UCF, UMass and West Virginia.
