TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa women's tennis secured a 4-0 sweep over Kansas City on Friday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, improving to 7-9 on the season.
The Golden Hurricane opened the match by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Maria Santos and Carolina Alonso earned a 6-3 victory at the top spot, while Tayla Wilmot and Coral Valle delivered a dominant 6-1 win on court two to clinch the point.
Tulsa carried that momentum into singles play, where the Golden Hurricane raced through the first three completed matches. Isabella Basson finished first with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 win on court two before Alonso followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the third position. Maria Santos added another straight-set result on court one, defeating Amal Gati 6-2, 6-2.
Santos' win secured the team victory for Tulsa, marking her third match-clinching point of the season. Her prior clinches both came in opening weekend of the season at the Hurricane Invite, against SEMO and Louisiana Tech.
Elsewhere in singles action, Erin McKenzie battled after dropping the opening set. Trailing 4-1, she rallied to close the gap to 4-3 and later 5-4 before ultimately falling 6-4 in the set before her match went unfinished. Alice Baba and Coral Valle were also leading their matches when play was halted after the team result had been decided.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday as the Golden Hurricane face Tarleton State at the Case Tennis Center at 9:30 a.m.
