Jonas Merckx joined the Tulsa men’s tennis coaching staff for the 2020-21 season, while pursuing his MBA at the Collins College of Business.
Merckx is a former professional tennis player with a career-high ATP world ranking of 443 in singles and 442 in doubles.
Merckx captured one ITF Future $15K singles title, three ITF Futures $15K doubles titles and one ITF Futures $25K doubles title in his 10-year career on the ATP Tour. He was the Flemish and Belgian Champion under-16 and achieved a career-high of 91 on the ITF Juniors World Ranking.
He has won multiple national titles with two different teams in the Belgian National Team competition. He represented his country Belgium at the 2010 European Championship in Klosters, Switzerland, where he lost in three sets to Jozef Kovalik (ATP Career High 80). Merckx represented Belgium multiple times as a player in the prestigious Master U Tournament, the World Event for University Tennis organized in France, with only the eight best countries in the world participating.
In 2019, Merckx was named the Belgian National Coach at the Master U Tournament, finishing 4th after beating Germany 4-3 on the first day.
Merckx completed his career with a 173-132 record on the ITF and ATP Tour. He played multiple top 100 players (Thiem, Medvedev, Dimitrov, etc.) during his professional career.
