Tulsa Men’s Tennis Tops Omaha, Abilene Christian on Sunday

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa men's tennis team (7-1) bested both Omaha (2-4) and Abilene Christian (3-3) in the team's Sunday doubleheader on the indoor courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Tulsa 7, Omaha 0
In the first match of the day, the Golden Hurricane squared off with the Omaha Mavericks, looking to improve on a four-match winning streak. TU blanked the Mavericks, 7-0, to improve to 6-1 on the season.
Tulsa saw production from the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams, as the duo of Kody Pearson and Daniel Siddall defeated Omaha's Ouattara/Reekie, 6-2 to strike first. To clinch the doubles point, Boriss Kamdem and Tom Thelwall-Jones tallied a 6-3 victory over the Mavericks' Dunn and Henry.
The Golden Hurricane continued its fast start into singles, taking all six first sets in the singles matches. Joshua Goodger filled in at No. 1 for Tulsa and handled the match from the beginning, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Ouattara.
To follow, Pearson took his match over the Mavericks' Reekie, 6-3, 6-0 to push the Tulsa lead to three. Identically in the six spot, Siddall also tallied a 6-3, 6-0 victory to move Tulsa ahead by four.
Kamdem, Stefan Hampe and Jarod Hing would follow suit, all picking up straight-set victories to blank Omaha in each team's first match of Sunday.
Tulsa 6, Abilene Christian 1
In the nightcap of an action-packed Sunday, the Golden Hurricane recorded its sixth-straight win, taking down the Abilene Christian Wildcats 6-1 inside the Case Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Golden Hurricane battled to earn the point, as all three duos earned wins. Majed Kilani and Hing struck first with a 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot, while Goodger/Kamdem edged out ACU's Moceanu/Tran with a 7-5 victory.
The tandem of Siddall and Thelwall-Jones took the court for the first time this season in the No. 3 doubles position and picked up a 7-6(4) win for good measure.
Heading into singles play, Pearson was the first to score for TU by way of retirement, moving the Golden Hurricane ahead by two.
Fellow freshman Siddall would manage the first straight-set victory for Tulsa at the sixth position, notching a 6-4, 6-4 win. To push the Golden Hurricane up four, Hing picked up a two-set win over Abilene Christian's Nikolas Moceanu, 6-1, 7-5.
Kilani added a straight-set win at the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-3, to improve to 3-0 in the top spot for Tulsa on the season. To further the deficit, Hampe battled to a 7-6(3), 6-4 win to push the Tulsa lead to six. In the final match of the night, the Wildcats got their lone victory, as Jonathan Sheehy edged out Goodger, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6(4).
With a 7-1 record under its belt, head coach Vince Westbrook's squad returns to action Friday, Feb. 1, with a crosstown rivalry matchup against Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. inside the Case Center.
