TULSA, Okla. ––
Tulsa's Isaiah Hill led four double-figure scorers with a season-high 14 points as the Golden Hurricane stifled Boise State 69-56 in front 3,367 fans Wednesday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Darien Jackson added 12 points, Lawson Korita 11 and Brandon Rachal 10 points for the Hurricane. Tulsa's bench, led by Hill and Korita, outscored the Broncos bench 34-to-10, while the Hurricane also had an 11-2 advantage in fast break points and a 38-22 edge for in the paint scoring.

The Hurricane defense played a huge part in the victory by holding the Broncos to 38-percent from the field and 20.7-percent from behind the arc, for a team that came into the game shooting 36-percent from 3-point range. Nine NBA scouts were in attendance to see Boise State's Derrick Alston, but Tulsa limited the junior to 10 points on 3-of-11 from the field.

Tulsa improved to 8-2 on the season, while Boise State fell to 5-4.

"I thought our defense was on point, outstanding from the get-go. We did a lot of good things out there, but our tone was set on that end of the court by our ability to fly around and be aggressive and change defenses and rebound the ball," said Tulsa head coach Frank Haith.

After a slow start for both teams, the Hurricane sprinted to a double-digit lead in the first 8 minutes and built a 21-point lead at halftime.

The teams played pretty even to start the second half as Boise State scored 9 to Tulsa's 8 points in the first 6 minutes. Jones jumper to start the second-half scoring gave Tulsa's its largest lead of the game at 23 points, 45-22, before the Broncos brought the lead back down to under 20 points.

Tulsa pushed its lead back to 21 points on a Rachal bucket in the paint for a 53-32 lead at the 14:12 mark. The Broncos went on a 10-2 run from that point to cut its deficit to 12 points at 55-43 with 10:35 left on the clock.

The Hurricane wouldn't let Boise State get any closer as a layup by Jackson, a layup by Hill and another Jackson layup, all in a 63-second span, pushed Tulsa's lead to 18 points at 61-43 with 8:10 to play. Both teams went on a scoreless stretch that lasted one minute and 50 seconds before Korita's short baseline jumper put Tulsa back ahead by 20 points with 6:20 on the clock.

At the 3:39 mark, Rachal's jumper put the Hurricane back up by 21 points with a 69-48 lead.

The two teams went scoreless in the first 3:30-plus minutes of the game until Tulsa's Rachal knocked down a 7-foot jumper at the 16:26 mark. Boise State didn't get its first points until the 15:38 mark on the clock.

The Hurricane took a 10-point lead, 15-5, on a Reggie Jones fast break layup at the 12:10 mark. BSU scored the next 4 points to trail by 6 points before the Hurricane took a double-digit lead and later its largest first-half lead of 21 points twice more before also ending the half with a 21-point margin.

Tulsa took a 43-22 lead into the locker room as the Hurricane totaled 24 first-half points in the paint and the Hurricane bench tallied 26 points as Isaiah Hill led the way with 12 points.

The Hurricane shot 56 percent in the first 20 minutes, while holding the Broncos to 28-percent from the field and just 13-percent from 3-point range. Tulsa also forced Boise State into 10 first-half turnovers.

Tulsa crosses the state line this Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. contest against the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The Hurricane will be back in Tulsa for a Saturday, Dec. 21 game against Colorado State for a 1:30 p.m. tipoff at the BOK Center as part of a double-header with Oklahoma State facing Minnesota in a 4 p.m. game. Tulsa returns to the Reynolds Center on Friday, Jan.3, to kickoff the American Athletic Conference season against the Temple Owls.
